Member Bios

 

Adam

Adam is a 17-year-old senior at Martin Luther King High School . He enjoys playing soccer and watching television, specifically Arrested Development and The Office. Adam joined the Riverside Youth Council because he felt it was a good way to get involved in the community and have a genuine impact. After high school, Adam plans to attend a four year university and serve a two year mission for his church. Adam is a member of the Press Enterprise Committee.

 

Aidan

Aidan is a 16 year old junior at Arlington High School . He enjoys cross country, reading, science, watching USC football. He joined the Riverside Youth Council to make himself a more influential part of the community in which he lives. In the future he plans to attend a large university and go on to med school. Aidan is unique in that he is very intelligent, while at the same time he has a laid back personality and enjoys goofing around to have a good time. Aidan is on the Public Access Committee.

 

Amber

Amber is a senior at Notre Dame high school.  She enjoys swimming, is dedicated to school academics, and is a great friend.  She wants to make a positive difference in the community any way she can, and Riverside Youth Council is a great way for her to do that.  She plans on attending college, and wants to enter the psychology field. She is on the Public Access Committee.

 

Andrew

Andrew is sixteen years of age and is a junior at North High. He loves to swim, loves to play music, and loves being with people. He joined Riverside Youth Council to make a difference in the community we live in and to help encourage kids to join in with the city-related activities. He plans on going to a UC to study law and enter into the judicial system as a judge. Since he's a very active person, he is well-rounded, and that makes him compatible with everyone. He is on the special events committee.

 

Brianna

Brianna is a senior at Ramona High School and is the Public Relations Officer of the Ramona Model United Nations Team. She is also a volunteer at the Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center . She joined the Riverside Youth Council in order to take an active role in the community and reach out to youth throughout the city. She plans on attending Barnard College in New York City in the fall of 2008, where she hopes to major in human rights and linguistics.  She loves to bake and cook, which she does with increasing frequency, and enjoys making food for her friends. Brianna is the chair of the Special Projects and Events Committee.

 

Charles

Charles is 17 years old and is a senior at Ramona High School .  He plans to go to UCLA after graduation and pursue a career in architecture.   He excels in academics and enjoys music. He is also a wrestler for Ramona in the 103 lbs. weight class and placed 4th in CIF. In his free time, Charles enjoys the time spent with his friends.  Charles is a member of the Special Projects and Events committee. 

 

David

David is 15, in 10th Grade, and attends Arlington High School . He enjoys the areas of science and mathematics; his hobbies are paint-balling, and creating and working with electronic devices. His reason for joining the Riverside Youth Council is to make an impact in the lives of young people in the community and to provide and coordinate fun yet educational activities and events for the community to enjoy. He hopes to give back to the community and help make a difference in the lives of the younger generation. He plans to exit college and attend MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) for eight years to acquire a doctorate in a field involving electronics. After college, he hopes to work in his own lab making further breakthroughs in technology and incorporating them into humanity. He is determined to meet the needs of the people and accomplish his goals, and with hard work make Riverside a better place to live. He is on the Press Enterprise Committee to add a youth component to the news and applicable to the teens today and give an inside perspective on teen life that has been overlooked. David is also the secretary of the RYC.

 

Deisy

Deisy is a 15 year old junior at John W. North High School . She enjoys watching movies and hanging out with friends. She is Vice-President of Junior State of America , Page Editor of the school yearbook, and a second year member of Mock Trial. Deisy decided to join Riverside Youth Council because she thought it would be a great way to become actively involved in the community. After high school she hopes to attend U.C. Berkeley. Although she is interested in politics her career goals involve pursuit of the medical field. Deisy serves on the Press-Enterprise Committee.

 

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is a fifteen year old sophomore that attends Arlington High School . She is on the tennis JV team and a soprano in Treble Choir. Her hobbies are writing short stories and novels, as well as embroidering and making origami stars. Her reasons for joining Riverside Youth Council are as follows: she wants to assist the community and make a difference in the city for the better. For a career, Elizabeth will certainly become a novelist, and perhaps have a degree in the scientific field as well. She is the chair of the Press Enterprise Committee.

 

Franni

Franni is a 17 year old junior at Martin Luther King High School . She is a competitive figure skater and a coach at Center Ice. She also participates in the Interact, STAND, California Scholarship Federation, and Mock Trial clubs at her school. She joined Riverside Youth Council to become more involved in her community, and to expose herself to the views of other young people. Franni works very hard to achieve the goals she sets for herself. In the future she hopes to become a robotics engineer or designer.  She would also like to study abroad during her college years, learn a new language, and write a novel. Franni is chair of the Website Committee.

 

Gagneet

Gagneet (Gia) Kaur is a senior at Ramona High School . She is a dancer, President of Ramona Model UN, and Vice President of MECha. She also attends conferences to discuss major issues affecting the world in a negative way, and it satisfies her to do something to help in any way she can. She joined Riverside Youth Council to know why and how things happen the city she lives in, and if she can, to contribute to and help those who evoke positive change. She is passionate about learning new points of view and understanding other cultures. She is also very passionate about her own ethnicity and says “All that I am today is because of what I learned and inherited from India , before I came here four years ago.” Gia is on the Public Access Committee.

 

Garrett

Garrett is 16 years old and is a Junior at John W. North High School .  He enjoys playing the cello and learning about music.  His favorite sports are swimming and volleyball and he "loves" pandas "because they're cool". Garrett joined the Riverside Youth Council because he wanted to help the youth and the community in a direct way.  Garrett plans to get a PhD and become a bioinformaticist in the future.  Garrett is currently working in the Public Access Committee.

 

Hamilton

Hamilton is a 16-year-old junior at Notre Dame High School , and this is his first year on the Riverside Youth Council. He likes to play basketball and enjoys swimming at Notre Dame. Both activities challenge and discipline his mind and body in order to achieve success. Hamilton joined the Riverside Youth Council to improve and get involved in his city and community. After high school, he wants to attend a 4 year university or college in the direction of engineering major. Hamilton serves on the Website Committee.

 

Ireland

Ireland is a 17-year-old senior at Riverside Poly High School . She enjoys reading, watching the surgery channel, volunteering at the local hospital, and traveling. She is a page editor on the Poly newspaper, President of the Non-Violent Peace Force, and involved in other various clubs at school. Ireland plans to attend a college on the east coast in order to pursue her dream of being a plastic surgeon. She chose to join RYC because she wants to help make a difference in the community by giving the youth a voice in decisions being made. This is Ireland 's first year on RYC and she is on the Press-Enterprise committee.

 

Kiyoshi

Kiyoshi is a 16-year-old junior at Polytechnic High School .  He has been a soccer referee for almost four years and he loves to skateboard with friends.  At school Kiyoshi is part of Spotlight, the school newspaper, and after school he works as a tutor to help other children.  He enjoys reading and cooking in his free time.  Kiyoshi enrolled in the Riverside Youth Council to expand his opportunities in life and have a chance to make a real difference in his community. In the future Kiyoshi plans on becoming a fine-dining chef and running his own restaurant as executive chef. He is currently working on the Press Enterprise Committee.

 

Kyle

Kyle is a 16-year old junior at Riverside Christian High School . His interests include reading, playing tennis, learning new languages, and playing his violin. At school, he is a member of the Tennis Club, the Art and Culture Club, and the orchestra. Kyle joined the RYC not only to become more involved in the community, but to work for the community and practice city governance first-hand. Kyle wants to attend Georgetown University , where he hopes to major in international politics. After Georgetown , he plans to join the Peace Corps where he will help developing communities in a foreign country. After his two years of service in the Peace Corps, Kyle wants to enroll in Johns Hopkins University ’s School of Advanced International Studies where he hopes to receive his master’s degrees in international relations and American foreign policy. He then wants to join the Foreign Service and work as a political officer in the U.S. embassies overseas. His career goal is to become an U.S. ambassador to another country and then Secretary of State. He plans to learn four languages during his lifetime: Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, French, and Spanish. Kyle is chair of the Public Access Production Committee.  

 

Liliana

Liliana is a senior at Norte Vista High School and will be joining the Riverside Youth Council for her second year. She is currently involved in Braves for Christ, FNL, and is president of the French Club. Liliana likes to read in her spare time and is planning to pursue a career in political science. She is a member of the Website Committee.

 

Lucero

Lucero (Lucy) is currently 16 years old and a junior at Norte Vista High School . She is President of Octagon Club, and Vice President of the Environmentalist Club. She enjoys helping our community and truly wants to make riverside a better place for generations to come. In the near future she plans to go to a college or university. She hopes to be an obstetrician, gynecologist, or a forensic scientist in the future. One thing that makes her unique is that she is the first one in her family who will be attending college, and is a hard worker with a kind heart who enjoys serving the community. She is on the Website Committee and Press Enterprise Committee.

 

Marvin

Marvin is a 16-year-old Junior at John W. North High School . This is his a third year on the Youth Council, and he is the council's Co-Chair. Marvin is involved in the Young Democrats of Riverside County, where he currently serves at the president. He is also involved with Student Government at North. After high school Marvin hopes to attend a U.C. campus - preferably UCLA.  As far as a career goal, Marvin is looking into being a politician, but he has not decided yet. He really enjoys government, politics, and creating music, and his hobby is riding his bike.   Marvin is a member of the Press Enterprise committee. He is on the Youth Council because he plans on staying in Riverside and would like to get a head start in government in the city.

 

Matthew

Matthew is a 17-year-old Senior at  Arlington High School and Chair of the Youth Council, as well as a third-year member. Matthew joined the Council two years ago because he wanted to become involved in city government and gain valuable experience in a leadership position.  He has returned for the last two years because he thoroughly enjoyed his previous Council experience. Matthew also enjoys acting and is involved in theatre at his school. After high school graduation he hopes to attend Columbia University in New York City and major in Urban Studies, eventually becoming an Urban Planner. Matthew is currently on the RYC Special Projects and Events Committee.

 

Melissa

Melissa is 17 years old. She is a senior at La Sierra High School and an active member in CSF, College Club and French Club. Melissa also enjoys watching USC Football. She joined Riverside Youth Council because she believes it will not only help her with her leadership skills, but will also allow her to share ideas and interact with new people. Her future career goal is to be a forensic pathologist or major in international business. She is on the Special Projects and Events Committee.

 

Michelle

Michelle is 17 years old and a senior at Arlington High School . She joined Riverside Youth Council with the hopes of becoming more involved in the community, as well as gaining more leadership and interpersonal skills. She is a member of the Public Access and Production Committee and the historian for the Riverside Youth Council. She is also a member of the AHS Chamber singers, the BP. Nordstrom Fashion Board, and has been playing piano since age 5. She is extremely passionate about music and art, and enjoys spending time with friends and family. She is not sure of what she wants to major in or what college she wants to go to, but she hopes to attend a UC school or other university in California .

 

Monica

Monica is a 17 year old senior at Poly High School .   She enjoys playing tennis, hanging out with friends, and watching Grey’s Anatomy and reality shows.  Monica is the President of Amnesty International and the editor-in-chief of her school yearbook.  She joined Riverside Youth Council because she wants to make a difference in the community and advocate youths to participate more in community events.  Monica hopes to pursue a career in journalism or business. This is her second year on RYC and she is a member of the Public Access Production Committee.

 

Susan

Susan is seventeen years old and a senior at La Sierra High School. She is involved in the College Club, French Club, CSF and was a part of cross country for three years, track for two years and water polo for one year. She joined the Riverside Youth Council because she wanted to get involved in something other than school activities and hopefully build her college resume. Susan’s future plans and career goals include going to a four year university and majoring in international relations, and to some day become a pilot. One thing that is unique about Susan is that she has completed three marathons and hopes to complete at least one every year. In RYC she is a member of the Special Projects and Events Committee.

 

Tito

Tito is 14 years old and in 10tth grade at La Sierra High School. Some of his hobbies are reading and playing videogames. He is fascinated with electronics and technological advancement. He also likes to read and become immersed in the stories that he progresses through. He’s involved in CSF (California Scholarship Federation) and College Club. Later this school year he plans to join Boys Tennis. His favorite sports are basketball, soccer, and tennis. He is also a MYT (Ministry Youth Trainee) at Harvest Christian Fellowship. He joined Riverside Youth Council because it is a fun and meaningful experience, as well as an outlet for contributing to the community. He also thought this would be a great asset on his college application. In the future, Tito plans to graduate high school as valedictorian and enter an amazing engineering college to earn a PhD in electrical/electronic engineering. He also plans to get more involved in his church and further his relationship with God. Tito is on the Website Committee.

 

Yue

Yue is a sixteen year old junior at Poly High School . She enjoys playing the piano and spending time with her friends and family. Yue also likes to serve her community and thus became involved with the Riverside Youth Council. After high school, she hopes to enter a four year university and eventually continue on to law school. Yue is the Commissioner of Clubs in Poly ASB. She is on the Special Activities and Events Committee this year.
