Summary:

Tonight the Riverside Youth Council is recognizing 2 young women who have work tirelessly to advocate for global just treatment of children and to provide an avenue for engagement and democracy on their campus.

We are delighted to recognize Francis Gaona and Maria Brito from Norte Vista High School, founders of the Norte Vista High School Invisible Children’s Club.

Francis and Maria are both top students a Norte Vista High School, enrolled in the Full International Baccalaureate Diploma.

However, beyond excelling academically, they are social activist rallying to provide a voice for abused and forgotten children around the world.

Aside from working to bring Invisible Children to Norte Vista High School, they also work diligently to ensure that their efforts were far reaching. In the summer they launch a fundraising effort so that they could represent the students on their campus and lobby in Washington, DC to end the global abuse of children.

Despite many challenges, Francis and Maria obtained their goal and participated in the lobby effort in Washington DC. They inspired a movement around their campus and have exemplified the importance of providing avenues for student advocacy and preparation to compete in a global climate.

The Riverside Youth Council is proud to recognize Francis Gaona and Maria Brito as the Inspiring Youth of the Month!

We congratulate Francis and Maria for their accomplishments and thank them for bringing pride to the Riverside community as young leaders that embody integrity and purpose.
